Watch Avalanche Vs Wild Game Five Streaming Online Live; 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs
Avalanche vs Wild game five starts tonight at 9:30 Eastern Standard Time. That’s 8:30 for those watching in Minnesota and 7:30 for fans watching from Colorado. After taking an early 2-0 series lead, the Avs let their command of the Wild vs Avalanche series slip out of their hands as the Minnesota Wild won games three and four in Minnesota. The Wild hope to carry that momentum into game five tonight in Colorado.
The story of the last two games of the Wild vs Avalanche series can be summed up like this: The Wild outshot, out-hustled, out-hit and just plain out-worked their Central Division rivals. The level of energy the two teams brought into the last two games hasn’t even been close. The Wild have more than doubled the shots on goal that Colorado has managed in the last two games. Between games three and four, the Minnesota Wild have put the puck on goal 78 times. In that same span, the Avalanche have only 34 shots on goal.
If it weren’t for the stellar goaltending of Colorado’s Semyon Varlamov, it’s unlikely the last two games would have been as close as they were. Varmalov stopped 75 of the Wild’s 78 shots during games one and two, losing games 2-1 and 1-0 (in overtime). The Avalanche are going to need to play a little offense in front of Varlamov if they want to wrest back control of this series. According to an AP report, Varmalov, who is one of the league’s three finalists for the Vezina Trophy, had this to say about his performance:
“That’s your job – stop the puck. Doesn’t matter how many shots – 15 or 45. We knew it was not going to be an easy series for us.”
As for the Avalanche, they aren’t cashing in their chips yet. There’s a reason the young team won the Central Division and first year coach Patrick Roy is keeping the two game downturn in perspective:
“This is a learning process. I’m not going to throw them under the bus because I’m their partner. Been with them all year long and I trust our team. But there are things we could do better, so we just need to change a little bit, fine-tune a few things here and there.”
The winner of what has become a best two out of three Wild vs Avalanche series will go on to play the winner of the what is arguably the most exciting series in the 2014 NHL playoffs so far – the Chicago Blackhawks vs St. Louis Blues.
