Oculus Rift Prank Video Shows Gamer Freaking Out
An Oculus Rift prank video shows one gamer demoing the virtual reality headset only to totally freak out when his “friend” shoves him just as the virtual roller coaster is about to plunge down toward the ground.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, Facebook liked the Oculus Rift technology enough to pay $2 billion to buy them out, but gamers were not so pleased with the Facebook deal, and even Minecraft’s creator chose to not support the Oculus Rift.
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed they plan on turning the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset into a method of sharing experiences throughout the world:
“Oculus has the potential to be the most social platform ever. Imagine not just sharing moments with your friends online but entire experiences. After games, we’re going to make Oculus a platform for many other experiences. Imagine enjoying a court side seat at a game, studying in a classroom of students and teachers all over the world or consulting with a doctor face-to-face — just by putting on goggles in your home. Virtual reality was once the dream of science fiction. But the internet was also once a dream, and so were computers and smartphones. The future is coming and we have a chance to build it together. I can’t wait to start working with the whole team at Oculus to bring this future to the world, and to unlock new worlds for all of us.”
Of course, one negative to technology like Oculus Rift is the potential for simulator sickness. Based upon the way the guy in the video is panicking, he probably experienced a severe case which was triggered by the shove, which, when combined with the visual stimulation, was apparently enough of a physical stimulus to temporarily convince his body that he was about to take a plunge… for real.
