Planet Fitness Boots Out Pregnant Mom Because Her Baby Bump Shows

A Planet Fitness in Charleston, South Carolina, recently kicked a woman out of the gym because she was pregnant and her baby bump was showing. Now Melissa Mantor, already the mom of three-year-old girl, is looking for another gym and letting the world know of her inappropriate and embarrassing treatment at the hands of Planet Fitness.

Melissa is 18 weeks pregnant and says that she was at Planet Fitness for the first time since her pregnancy was showing.

“I was on the treadmill for about 10 minutes before I was approached by a girl who came up to me telling me that she is going to have to ask me to leave,” said the 31-year-old mom, in an interview with a local TV station. “I was very confused by this and thought I may have heard her wrong. She told me again that I am not able to continue my workout until I change my clothes because I am in violation of their dress code.”

But Melissa was wearing the same tank top — of which she owns several in different colors — that she always wears to Planet Fitness. So what was the problem?

“She continued telling that my belly was hanging out and I need to get it covered up,” Melissa said. “I told her at that time ‘Of course my belly is hanging out, I am pregnant.’ She handed me a very large t-shirt while telling me that what I was wearing was inappropriate.”

While she says that the tank top does have a tendency to ride up when she exercises, no Planet Fitness employee had ever raised an objection before. The difference was obvious.

Planet Fitness later offered Melissa Mantor a month’s free membership, but she turned their offer down.

“I even had people comment about the situation, which was extremely embarrassing,” Meilissa said. “Being a pregnant woman getting kicked out of the gym for being dressed inappropriately — I am a mother and a modest person. I do not want to be told I am dressed inappropriately.”

To make her point Melissa put together before and after pictures of herself in her tank top.
