Joan Rivers In Trouble For Joking About Ariel Castro’s Victims
Joan Rivers has a very unique, albeit negative, reputation despite the foundation within her popularity. One part is easily her physical look, especially her face. However, the other part is what gets her in trouble the most: her offensively outspoken views. This time, Joan Rivers is in hot water for a joke she made pertaining to the victims of Ariel Castro.
According to Fox News, attorneys for two of the women, held in a Cleveland home and abused for a decade, say Joan Rivers should apologize for making a joke comparing their horrific experiences to living in her daughter’s guest room.
Rivers and her daughter, Melissa Rivers, were discussing their reality show Tuesday, on NBC’s Today Show, when she complained about her living arrangements, stating the following:
“Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space.”
Maybe it is because the news is still somewhat fresh from last year but Joan Rivers’ joke – like most of her jokes actually – was very insensitive. It was enough for attorneys representing Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus, two of the three women who were kept prisoner, to state that Rivers’ joke was “hurtful” and “shocking”. In all, it was a “new low” and warrants an apology.
As of now, Joan Rivers’ publicist hasn’t responded to messages seeking for a comment.
Berry and DeJesus, along with a third woman, Michelle Knight, escaped from the confines of their imprisonment last year. Their kidnapper, Ariel Castro, hanged himself while serving his time in prison.
By now, Joan Rivers would have learned to be careful for what she says. However, according to numerous reports here on The Inquisitr, Rivers has not. Over the past two years, starting back in 2012, Joan Rivers has engaged in a Twitter fight with Rihanna, poked fun at singing sensation Adele’s weight, harshly told Jennifer Lawrence to “grow up”, stated that Kanye West’s “ugly” baby needed waxing, and even said that Gwyneth Paltrow has a “stick up her rear end”. Yet whenever somebody has a negative opinion about her, Joan Rivers does get lawsuit-happy.
Despite her indecent mouth, people probably would let Joan Rivers say all her crazy ideas and opinions without much pretense if Rivers were able to handle any wordy punches taken to her as much as she dishes it. The fact that Joan Rivers loves to speak her mind without thinking yet gets offended when others do the same to her in return probably underlies insecurity.
