Mariah Carey fans were understandably upset when they learned that The Art of Letting Go has mysterious vanished from her record label’s release schedule. However, there’s a chance the singer is attempting to pull a fast one on her supporters.
Carey has apparently tested the limits of her fans’ patience by delaying the release of her 14th album. Some folks decided to take aim at Mariah and manager Jermaine Dupri on Twitter, prompting the mogul to fire back at folks who were getting a little too worked up about the record.
However, word on the street suggests that Mariah Carey and her handlers are still planning to drop The Art of Letting Go in the coming weeks. Instead of giving everyone a proper date to circle on their calendars, the singer is reportedly plotting a Beyoncé-style surprise. Apparently that’s the latest trend in the music industry.
Popdust theorizes that Mariah Carey could release her long-delayed album at some point next month. Although that’s not exactly a surprise — the record was originally slated to hit retail on May 6 — it would definitely catch a few people off-guard. However, it’s a far cry from the surprise Beyoncé dropped on the world late last year.
While some people believe Mariah is plotting to follow in Queen B’s footsteps, others feel Carey’s lack of success in recent months has prompted her label to shelve The Art of Letting Go until further notice. The singer’s latest single “You’re Mine (Eternal)” couldn’t make it past number 88 on the Hot 100 chart. A handful of other tunes from her latest record also failed to make a significant impact on the world.
