Russell Wilson Divorce: Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Separating From Wife After Two Years
Russell Wilson is getting a divorce, separating from his wife Ashton after two years of marriage.
The Seattle Seahawks quarterback announced the divorce via a statement from the team on Monday, asking for “prayers and understanding and privacy during this difficult time.”
The couple married in January 2012, after Wilson finished his college football career at Wisconsin and before he was drafted by the Seahawks in the third round.
This season Russell Wilson led his team to a 13-3 record and a win over the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl XLVIII.
Though a standout on the field, Russell Wilson has remained quiet off the field, sharing little about his personal life. But he has gradually become more open, and talked this offseason about interest in appearing on Dancing with the Stars.
“I have been invited, twice actually,” Wilson told Access Hollywood. “After my rookie year, I got invited to do Dancing with the Stars, and then after this year, I got invited to do Dancing with the Stars.”
Wilson said he is a big fan of the show, but at the current time wants to focus on his career.
“I need to focus on my football career right now,” Wilson said. “I’m trying to do as much as I can in terms of winning football games for the Seattle Seahawks and our franchise. But I will do it as some point, for sure.”
Wilson’s career future may contain more than football. A former pitching standout on the baseball diamond, Wilson was recently purchased by the Texas Rangers in the Rule-5 draft in December, and spent some time with the team at training camp in the spring. His work was mostly in the clubhouse, talking to prospects about motivation and a winning attitude.
Russell Wilson has shared no more divorce details, including the reason behind the split.
