Anaheim has taken a 2-1 lead in the Stars vs Ducks series, but Dallas will look to build on the momentum of game three’s 3-0 home win to even the series up tonight. Don’t count on the Anaheim Ducks to make that easy.
One of the more interesting side stories in this playoffs series comes from Ducks defenseman Stephane Robidas, who was traded to Anaheim by Dallas earlier in the year at a time when Dallas’ playoff prospects were looking grim. According to an ESPN report , Robidas had this to say about facing his former teammates in the Ducks vs Stars first round of the 2014 NHL playoffs :
“There’s things that I know, but it’s up to the players on the ice. They (the Dallas Stars) really did me a favor to give me a chance to play for a Stanley Cup when they didn’t know if they were going to make the playoffs. There’s no hard feelings, but they know I really want to beat them.”
The same report quotes Ducks’ superstar Ryan Getzlaf regarding Anaheim’s Western Conference-leading regular season:
“Nobody remembers the team that had the best regular season in franchise history. It’s all about winning in the playoffs. I’ve been here nine years, and the only year we ever talk about is the year we won the Cup.”
An AP report quotes Getzlaf, who apparently has kept a good sense of humor despite the aggressive physical play – much of which targeted the Ducks captain – of the Dallas Stars in game three:
“(The Stars are) Trying to hit my head, how about? I don’t know about get in my head. I don’t have enough room for them to get in my head. Trust me.”
Dallas Stars coach Lindy Ruff had this to say about the level of physical play in the Stars vs Ducks series:
“I think that they’re going to be trying to be harder on our guys, and our guys are going to be ready for it. We’re going to try to be harder on their guys, and I don’t think we crossed the line in any means. Not at all.”
Look for tonight’s Ducks vs Stars game to be just as hard-hitting, especially if the guys in the striped shirts don’t do a lot more to nip it in the bud.
