‘OG’ Brian Williams Raps ‘Gin & Juice’
NBC anchorman Brian Williams “rapped” Snoop Dogg’s classic 1994 hit “Gin and Juice” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” last night.
Perhaps ‘rapped’ is not quite the word. Host Jimmy Fallon actually presented a “Gin and Juice” montage of the seemingly conservative, straight-laced Williams during the newsman’s appearance.
The Brian Williams rap videos that have been a mainstay on “The Tonight Show” since Fallon took over from long-time host Jay Leno in February of this year. Other videos that have also gone viral include the Sugar Hill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight”, Warren G’s “Regulate,” and N.W.A’s “Straight Outta Compton.”
The videos are actually “NBC Nightly News” clips from the past five years expertly edited to create the rap classics.
Unlike the other Williams rap conglomerations that Fallon has featured in the past, the NBC anchor was on set to discuss his “meteoric rise” to fame in the hip-hop world for his latest debut.
The stoic reporter’s time discussing his newfound fame made for great viewing as he bantered back and forth with Fallon.
The anchorman sarcastically showed his appreciation to Fallon. “I just don’t know how to thank you,” he deadpanned.
“People somehow think I have colluded into the making of these videos,” Williams said. “Let’s be clear… I’ve never said hippity.”
Williams also made mention that Oscar-winner Cuba Gooding Jr. made it a point to approach him at a New York Rangers playoff game to let him know that he was “huge figure in the rap and hip-hop community.”
Williams did voice some concern with the quality of his material. requesting such song choices as pre-hearing loss, Foxy Brown, as well as Ludacris, whom Williams referred to as “Luda.”
The newsman also expressed with Fallon some reservations he had with his “Rapper’s Delight” co-rapper and fellow NBC Anchor, Lester Holt, “because of his flow.”
The popular late night host has shown a knack for utilizing social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube to gain viewers and bolster his ratings in the “dog-eat-dog” world of late night talk shows.
In that same spirit, the good folks at “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” were kind enough to put together a “Brian Williams Raps” playlist.
