One Direction Can’t Break Miley Cyrus’ 24-Hour VEVO Record

One Direction fans tried their best, but they couldn’t help the guys break Miley Cyrus’ 24-hour record on VEVO.

The beloved pop group really wanted to dethrone the controversial singer from the top spot by getting over 19.3 million views of their latest single “You and I” on VEVO. Despite putting forth a valiant effort — which probably included many folks watching the clip more than a dozen times — One Direction simply couldn’t generate the necessary numbers.

The group’s latest music video ultimately amassed 6,976,288 views during its first 24 hours of availability. While that’s certainly a feat in and of itself, that figure didn’t come close to surpassing the one Miley Cyrus’ fans helped her put together last year with “Wrecking Ball.”

In case you need official VEVO confirmation of that figure, here’s the tweet featuring the disappointing One Direction news.

If the One Direction guys are disappointed right now, then they can rest easy knowing that they defeated Miley Cyrus on VEVO with their tune “Best Song Ever” last year. Entertainmentwise points out that the Midnight Memories track surpassed Cyrus’ “We Can’t Stop” with 12.3 million views. As the fellas have surely heard at some point in their lives, they simply can’t win them all.

Two people who probably helped the latest One Direction single generate 6.9 million views in 24 hours were Lily-Rose and Jack Depp, otherwise known as Johnny Depp’s kids. In case you haven’t heard, the pair are apparently pretty big fans of the band. In fact, they’re hoping their father will send the guys an invite to his upcoming wedding to Amber Heard.

According to Sugarscape, the Pirates of the Caribbean alum’s children want their famous dad to send invites to One Direction in hopes of hanging out with the singers at the upcoming event. Sadly, the Web site points out that the band’s Where We Are tour could ultimately derail Lily-Rose and Jack’s plans to get some face time with One Direction.

Are you a fan of One Direction? Were you overwhelmingly disappointed that the group couldn’t break Miley Cyrus’ VEVO record with their new single “You and I”?
