Channing Tatum Accepts Trailblazer Award At MTV Movie Awards 2014
Channing Tatum received this year’s Trailblazer Award during the annual MTV Movie Awards on April 13th, reports CBS News. For Tatum, 33, it was a high honor. He is the first male actor ever to receive the award. Previous winners of the Trailblazer Award were Emma Stone and Emma Watson.
The award was presented to Tatum by Mila Kunis, Tatum’s Jupiter Ascending co-star and Jonah Hill, his 22 Jump Street co-star.
Jonah Hill described Tatum as “one of the funniest people I’ve ever met in my life.”
On Tatum’s part, his reaction to finding out he would be receiving the Trailblazer Award was disbelief at first.
“I’m not really sure what I did to deserve this. It’s weird because 10 years ago I was sitting in front of my TV watching the show just like people at home right now, and I didn’t have the faintest thought that I could actually be up here talking to y’all,” Tatum told the crowd at the MTV Movie Awards. “I had no idea if I’d be good at anything, much less acting, and when I think about what’s gotten me from there to here, it has to do with you guys. And I thank you so much for everything.”
President of MTV, Stephen Friedman, assured everyone that Tatum is worthy of the award.
“Channing Tatum is the quintessential leading man for the MTV audience,” said Friedman, via CBS News. “He proves that an action hero can have both a quick wit and a large heart. Whether he’s baring his soul in The Vow, his chest in Magic Mike, or his humor in 21 Jump Street, Channing proves that by committing everything, you can accomplish anything.”
The first thing Tatum did when he won the Trailblazer Award was grab his wife, Jenna Dewan-Tatum, and kiss her, reports Hollywood Life. Tatum’s wife can be credited for his moving forward in his career. The couple met in 2006 on the set of “Step Up.” Tatum and Jenna were married in July of 2009. Four years later, their first daughter, Everly, was born in May of 2013.
Aside from his roles in Jupiter Ascending and 22 Jump Street, Tatum’s current work includes appearing alongside Steve Carell in Foxcatcher, in the animated film The Book of Life, and he will begin production for the sequel of Magic Mike soon.
