‘Assassin’s Creed: Comet’ Could Take Place In Ancient Rome
Assassin’s Creed: Comet rumors have surfaced on Monday that seem to indicate the next Assassin’s Creed game is going to be set in ancient Rome.
We already know that Assassin’s Creed: Unity is going to take place during the French Revolution but we also know there is going to be a second game in the series also released this year.
Unity is set to hit next generation consoles, according to Computer and Video Games but there is also going to be an Assassin’s Creed for the Xbox 360 and PS3 as well.
Comet is said to be the title for the leaked game, which first hit the web last month but there still isn’t a lot known about the new game. Rumors claim the title will be a follow up to the very popular Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, which allowed players to take on the role of a pirate and face off against the likes of Black Beard.
Ubisoft Toronto is helming the newest Assassin’s Creed games and studio boss Jade Raymond might have let slip the Ancient Rome setting for Comet. Raymond was talking to The Grid when she mentioned have met with historians about that period of time.
While Raymond certainly didn’t say exactly this new game would be set there some people are viewing the comment as more than just a throwaway. In the interview, one of the most well-known women in video gaming said:
We work with historians to recreate these societies—ancient Rome, the French Revolution. And because each game is crafted in a new era, players don’t get tired of the it.
Most people are seizing on the comment because there hasn’t actually been a version in the series taking place in Rome yet, while Unity covers the French Revolution aspect.
One has to wonder how Assassin’s Creed: Comet is going to incorporate piracy if it is taking place during a period of history when pirates didn’t really exist. When people think of Ancient Rome they usually don’t really think of sailing around on the high seas.
That could actually make the game a little more interesting if Ubisoft is looking at taking a look at the era from a different angle, but it seems unlikely that both of the rumors for Comet are actually true.
There have also been other rumors that the second new Assassin’s Creed will have something to do with Hailey’s Comet but those rumblings haven’t been backed up just yet. Both Assassin’s Creed: Comet and Assassin’s Creed: Unity are expected to hit store shelves this fall and winter.
