Michael Bay Drops More Bombs On ‘Transformers’
As we reported, Michael Bay has revealed that the Transformers reboot with Mark Wahlberg will start a whole new series. As the weeks count down to the opening of Transformers: Age of Extinction, Bay is slowly but surely revealing plot details about the film.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly Bay revealed some important details about the new Transformers film which stars Mark Wahlberg. One of the main plot points in Transformers: Age of Extinction has to do with humanity being aggravated with the Transformers from the attack on Chicago that happened in Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
Bay explains:
“[The government] wants to wipe out all the Transformers, all the Autobots. Optimus has lost all faith in humankind, and I’m trying to convince him there is still good in the world and we need to work together.”
As far as the film’s biggest star, Optimus Prime, director Michael Bay put his mindset into perspective:
“He’s done good for earth, and he’s been fucked over.” As a result, Bay promised, we’ll see “angry Optimus Prime.”
We previously reported that for this series Bay is introducing two key Transformers that fans may know from the comic book series. There’s Lockbown, who is a bounty hunter turned Lamborghini Aventador, and Grimlock, who is a Dinobot.
“Lockdown is an interesting character. He travels the galaxy, he works for somebody else. And he’s here for one person, one alien, and then he’s out of here. So he doesn’t really want to take sides. The cause and balance of the galaxy is kind of messed up when different species play with different species. And that opens up a whole other gigantic world for Transformers.”
Unfortunately these new characters’ secrets won’t be revealed in the fifth Transformers film that will be hitting theaters soon. Instead their stories will be fleshed out in the other films that will come after Transformers: Age of Extinction.
“Lockdown’s ship has a lot of meaning that can go into other movies. There’s a lot of backstory about that ship that’s not laid out here. You’re going to see a few things where you’re like ‘What is that? And what is that?’ And you’re going to see a couple shots like, ‘Wait a minute, who are they?’ But we don’t answer those questions.”
Michael Bay’s Transformers Age of Extinction hits theaters on June 27. In addition to Mark Wahlberg, the film also stars, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor.
