Leonardo DiCaprio Not Dead: Actor Responds To Hoax Story Of Snowboarding Death
Leonardo DiCaprio is not dead after sufferng a fatal injury while snowboarding in Switzerland, but that hasn’t stopped a death hoax story claiming otherwise from racing around the internet.
Leo became the latest celebrity to be the victim of a death hoax, a fabricated story of his demise that has made its way around the internet. His story came via the celebrity gossip side Media Fetcher, claiming that Leonardo DiCaprio died after the snowboarding accident.
The report claimed:
“The actor & novice snowboarder was vacationing at the Zermatt ski resort in Zermatt, Switzerland with family and friends. Witnesses indicate that Leonardo Dicaprio lost control of his snowboard and struck a tree at a high rate of speed.
“Leonardo Dicaprio was air lifted by ski patrol teams to a local hospital, however, it is believed that the actor died instantly from the impact of the crash. The actor was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played any part in his death.”
If name of that site or the cause of Leo’s supposed death sounds familiar, that’s because Media Fetcher is a site where anyone can generate their own fake celebrity news. The snowboarding death is a popular template, and has been used in the past to successfully spread stories about other celebrities.
This is also the second time that Leonardo DiCaprio has been declared dead by the internet. In April 2009, another false story spread, and even prompted the actor’s spokesman to verify that Leo was indeed alive and well.
“He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the internet,” Leo’s rep said at the time.
When contacted about the latest hoax, the actor’s reps again laughed off the report that Leonardo DiCaprio is dead.
