A Port St. Lucie, Florida, man who beat and attempted to drown his English Bulldog and attacked his girlfriend when she tried to intervene to save the animal, was arrested according to police.
The English Bulldog belongs to the man’s girlfriend, and apparently he was upset because the animal had destroyed several things in the home while he was away and defecated on the floor.
Kyle Romain Hall faces animal cruelty charges after police say he beat Scrappy with a sawed-off shotgun, and then attempted to drown the dog at his home Wednesday.
The man also faces aggravated battery and possession of a short-barreled shotgun charges.
According to the police report, the man didn’t only beat up the dog, but took it into the bathroom and tied it up, brutally beating it with the shotgun as the English Bulldog cried out in pain.
Hall then attempted to drown Scrappy by holding its head underwater in the tub.
Port St. Lucie police responded to a possible domestic dispute at Hall’s apartment on Wednesday, around noon and were met by the man’s girlfriend, who said he had become angry with the dog for destroying things in the apartment.
The girlfriend said that Hall began hitting the dog and things got out of hand when the English Bulldog started howling and crying.
The police report says that the man filled the bathtub with water and then took the animal’s head and put it underwater and kept hitting the dog with the sawed-off shotgun.
That is when the girlfriend came to the dog’s rescue and the man turned the gun on her and pointed at her head, Port St. Lucie police say, she fled and called authorities on him.
When police arrived, they found Scrappy, the English Bulldog, in the bathtub with a swollen head, cuts all over, and “barely conscious, dazed and unresponsive” at the scene.
The dog was taken to Animal Kindness Hospital for treatment he received at the hands of the abusive man, who was then taken away to jail.
Kyle Romain Hall, 24, was charged Wednesday and remains at the St. Lucie County Jail on Thursday, on $85,000 bond.
