Emilia Clarke Spills ‘Game Of Thrones’ Season Four Secrets
Emilia Clarke recently spilled some secrets about ‘Game of Thrones,’ as well as what it is like to play a strong female role, reports WebProNews.
‘Game of Thrones’ made its big return to HBO on Sunday night (April 6th) in what will be the shows fourth season.
Clarke plays the part of Daenarys Targaryen on the hit HBO show. She was actually just out of acting school when she was chose for the part. Now, not only does Clarke have the part on ‘Game of Thrones,’ but she will also being playing the part of Sarah Connor in Terminator: Genesis in the upcoming year.
Clarke had this to say about her role as Daenarys, “This is my first proper job, so I’ve been growing with her, which is the exciting part. Man, she’s got more strength than I have, that’s for sure. Getting to be with her throughout this growth process is so exciting as an actor. While she’s pushing herself, I get to push myself and my acting every season.”
When practicing for the role of a strong character such as Daenarys, Clarke said she looked to films for inspiration.
“With every season she gets more and more complicated, but fundamentally she is a leader and a survivor, and the beautiful difference between Daenerys and the rest of the cast is her ultimate goal is pure. Her ultimate goal is entirely selfless. It feels much more of a bigger idea than simply I want to sit on the throne because I want to sit on the throne. She would like to rule and create an equal world. With that, every season, there are more and more similarities to be found between Daenerys and politics, Daenerys and the pitfalls of being a leader. There’s so many sources to turn to for that. Then you add that she’s a woman, then you add that she looks like 12 years old, it ends up being a number of different things that I like to draw from. Season 2 I remember I watched “Lawrence of Arabia” a couple of times. “Elizabeth” is something I’ve looked to a lot for a strong female leader.”
According to Clarke, there will be even more drama in season four that there was in the previous seasons. Not only that, but the story will only continue to get darker as it goes on.
Hollywood.com reports that Clarke’s character, Daenarys will not have the same control over her dragons – otherwise known as her “babies” – as she had in the first three seasons. Up until season four, Daenarys’ (Clarke) dragons had been her competitive advantage in her mission to liberate Meereen and eventually win control of the Iron Throne. They burned Pyat Pree in the House of the Undying, they turned Kraznys into overcooked barbecue in the Season 3 and the list goes on. Now, however, in season four Daenarys’ (Clarke) dragons have grown up and she doesn’t have as much control over them.
“They’re harder to maintain,” Clarke continued. “They’re harder to keep fed. They’re like rowdy teenagers — that’s the best way to describe them. They have a mind of their own and they breathe fire, so [Daenerys has to] kind of fire-proof the world.”
This will become a problem, of course, because if Daenarys (Clarke) loses control of her dragons, she will lose everything she has worked for.
