Kanye West’s New Adidas To Hit Shelves In June [Video]
The wait is almost over for Kanye West’s line of Adidas sneakers. The rapper’s deal with Adidas was met with major exposure, like everything else Kanye related these days. West’s deal with Adidas was significant because West had a very public falling out with their competitor Nike, after releasing a sneaker line with the brand.
Now those who aren’t Nike heads, you’ll be happy to hear that West’s Adidas sneakers are on their way to a store near you. Like most of Kanye’s endeavors, the rapper turned fashionista made sure that everyone heard the exciting news about his brand new sneaker line directly from the horse’s mouth.
In the case of his Adidas line, West made a passionate speech in Germany during the Adidas Global Brand Conference. During the speech West said, “So in June, we’ll see the new Yeezis.” Those who aren’t familiar, Yeezy is a play on words for the rapper’s nickname Yeezy, not the mention “Yeezus” which just so happens to be the name of his latest album.
During his speech, West seemed very inspired by the Adidas brand and what was to come of the future sneaker line.
“Creativity is my oxygen, I have to create. And I don’t care how crazy I look to anyone; as long as I can make the best product for all of you. So in June, we’ll see the new Yeezis.”
Kanye explained that his dream to design sneakers was fully realized since he became a father to daughter North West.
“To get to the point to be able to make your own shoe and have people react to it was such an amazing feeling that I could never let that go. With this opportunity to create, I feel like I can be myself.”
As stated, West released his Air Yeezys in 2009 through Nike, but he had a falling out with the company. After that Kanye campaigned through radio shows for a new apparel deal with Nike, but apparently the company wasn’t going to meet him half way with his creative ideas, and they officially parted ways in December. He went on to say that Nike’s CEO Mark Parker “just lost culture.”
West seemed very confident that the switch from Nike to Adidas was a right move for his designing endeavors:
“This was the company that was experienced and brave enough to give me the opportunity to create.”
Instead of Air Yeezy’s fans can expect the “YEEZi” sneaker to make its way on the shelf.
