Pharrell Williams: Replaces Cee Lo Green On ‘The Voice’
Pharrell Williams makes headlines today because NBC has announced that Williams will replace Cee Lo Green as a judge on NBC’s hit show The Voice for their seventh season this coming Fall. NBC broke the news that Williams will be joining the show on twitter Monday. The tweet said,
“Okay, we can OFFICIALLY say it! WE ARE SO #Happy to announce PHARRELL WILLIAMS=#NewVoiceCoach for SEASON 7.”
This is a big win for NBC right now because Pharrell Williams is currently the hottest and most successful producer/musician out there. Williams was apart of two songs that were deemed as the songs of the summer. The songs were “Blurred Lines” which featured Robin Thicke and T.I, and “Get Lucky” featuring Daft Punk. Williams wrote both soundtracks for the animated movie Despicable Me 2. The soundtrack “Happy” form Despicable Me 2 was also nominated for an Oscar. In addition to all of that Pharrell released his new album G I R L on March 3rd.
However, Cee Lo Green will be missed on The Voice, he was one of the first judges to be on The Voice. In February Cee Lo Green told Ellen on her show that he will be leaving The Voice. Cee Lo says,
“Im not coming back at all, I just don’t want to wear out my welcome there, you know what I’m saying? I have so many other things that I want to do. I haven’t released an album in four years. I’m almost done with my album.”
However, Williams isn’t the only new addition to The Voice, Coldplay front man Chris Martin is being brought on as a new mentor for the singers as well. Some of the previous mentors on The Voice has been Kelly Clarkson, Cher, and Alanis Morisette.
The reason why The Voice is one of the best singing competition shows is because they always rotate their judges to keep things fresh. Currently Shakira and Usher are stepping in for Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green during seasons four and six. The real fan favorites are Adam Levine and Blake Shelton because there the only two judges that have stayed on for all six seasons. This is the reason why The Voice averages 13.8 million viewers an episode. The Voice now surpasses huge shows like American Idol.
Now that The Voice is adding Pharrell Williams to the mix, ratings and viewership are going to skyrocket for season 7.
