Former Human Torch actor Chris Evans has gone on record as saying he thinks Michael B Jordan will be a “phenomenal” replacement in the iconic Fantastic Four role. This may come as a shock to long-time fans of the Fantastic Four who took the recasting as a borderline insult.
The rest of the recasting wasn’t met with this much hatred, with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, and Jamie Bell filling the other main roles.
It may be a combination of racism and “fanboyism” that led the internet into a basic outrage over making Johnny Storm African American, but you would think we would be used to it by now. After all, Kingpin and Nick Fury were originally Caucasian characters as well before the movies were made. Michael Keaton’s Batman films had Harvey Dent (Two-Face) portrayed similarly. The big question most others are wondering is how a brother and sister could be born with different skin colors.
That one is easy: Recessive genes between paternal twins could have made that happen. We don’t know what the Storms’ parents looked like. Their father may have been African American, and the gene simply skipped Sue. Basically, it’s not that big a deal if you keep an open mind.
Now that the logic is cleared up, we’ve had word from the last Human Torch actor about what he thinks of Micheal B Jordan taking over in the Fantastic Four reboot. Chris Evans told another news publication:
“It’s so funny, you almost feel precious over the role that you don’t want someone else to do it. But when you hear someone phenomenal is doing it, it’s very exciting like you almost can’t wait … I couldn’t even give that guy any advice if I wanted, that guy is so good. It’s exciting to see what he’s going to do, because I know he’s going to reinvent it in a way that I could never have imagined … It’s almost like we’re sharing, the character is ours. I feel like I’m connected with him in a way, It’s a nice feeling.”
Apparently the former Human Torch actor feels like he’s being replaced by a high caliber actor, and he’s excited about it. That’s a ringing endorsement, being praised by an actor who was really perfect for the role. Chris Evans was so dead-on as the Human Torch that the idea of him playing Captain America initially seemed wrong, as previously reported by The Inquisitr .
Do you agree with Chris Evans that Michael B Jordan would be “phenomenal” as the Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot? If not, who else do you think should have been the new Human Torch actor?
