Elton John And David Furnish Set Wedding Date
Elton John and David Furnish are just one homosexual couple who publicly celebrated the UK legalizing gay marriage. Now Elton and David have announced the date they will formally celebrate their new found freedoms with nuptials.
Elton John and David Furnish have been a couple for more than eight years and the pair will officially tie the knot at a registry office sometime in May. The exact date is likely only being made known to those John as well as Furnish consider close friends, though the day the ceremony moves forward, it will likely be well known through Great Britain.
Digital Spy reports that Furnish told the media he and Elton John will have a rather intimate ceremony that will also be attended by the couple’s two children Elijah, 3, and Zachary, 16 months.
There are a number of gay couples that are moving forward with wedding plans, some moving quite a bit faster than Elton and his partner. Friday, March 28 was the first day in which homosexual marriage was officially legal in the UK and some people made sure they made everything official that day.
Furnish said he and John are taking their time because they don’t feel a particular pressure to take the next official step. “Since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example.” Furnish added.
The Marriage Act was officially passed in Great Britain way back in July of last year but was made with a built in delay as far as taking effect. In October, John told Jimmy Kimmel that he felt it was his duty to be one of the original British gay men to get married.
The ceremony in May means that he won’t be among the first in the country, but Elton along with David will be able to say they got it done inside the first few months of the law taking effect.
While wedding ceremony will be a small, quiet affair, Elton and his partner did manage to throw quite the party to celebrate the law. John and Furnish spent more than $2 million on the party. John’s celebration saw Elton invite more than 650 guests.
Furnish was explicit in saying their wedding will be quite a bit smaller when he was talking to the media over the weekend. He said the ceremony between himself and Elton John will include the kids and a few witnesses.
