Have plans to go the movies this weekend? If you do, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the movie to go and watch! For the U.S. the movie comes out Friday, April 4th, but It has already been released overseas as well. This past weekend was the opening weekend internationally for Captain America, and the movie racked in 75.2 million in its overseas box office.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier dominated internationally , and opened No.1 in all but two of its 32 markets. Since the movie comes out this Friday in the U.S. its on track to become this year’s biggest domestic opening in the box office with an $80 million-plus debut.
The biggest overseas markets for Captain America: The Winter Soldier were Korea with a $10.9 million opening and the UK had an $10.7 million opening. Other strong markets were Mexico which had an $8.7 million debut, France had $6.4 million, Italy had $3.9 million and Germany had $3.8 million.
The previous movie, Captain America: The First Avenger, did exceptionally well when it was first released in 2011, it opened with $65 million in the U.S., then it gained $176 million domestically and an additional $194 million internationally. The movie itself was produced for $140 million. Keeping in mind this was the movie previous to The Avengers debut.
Marvel’s The Avengers was released in 2012, and overall raked in $1.6 billion globally, proving to be Marvel’s most successful movie and becoming a game changer for Marvel’s cinematic universe. The follow up films that Marvel released after The Avengers were Iron man 3 , and Thor: The Dark World . Iron Man 3 doubled the amount it took in from Iron Man 2 with $623 million, which added up to being $1.21 billion worldwide. Thor: The Dark World came out this past November, and took in $644 million worldwide compared to its previous film which raked in $449 million.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the next Marvel movie, and its already getting great reviews , some even say its the best Marvel movie up to date. The cast for this movie stars Chris Evans returning as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, and new addition Anthony Mackie as Falcon. The directors for this film are the Russo brothers: Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, and they are taking over for Joe Johnston.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier is said to be a “game changer”, so if you’re a fan of Marvel movies, you better go see Captain America kick butt this weekend!
