It seems Disney’s Frozen cannot be stopped. Previously on The Inquisitr , we’ve reported how Frozen is the first Disney Animated Feature to reach $1 billion at the box office . Last week, we reported Frozen was officially the 13th highest grossing movie at the box office . Now Frozen has passed another milestone: the highest grossing animated film of all time.
The achievement was announced, March 30, 2014, from Disney, as reported by IGN . To achieve this honor, Frozen had to surpass Disney-Pixar’s Toy Story 3 , currently sitting at $1.063 billion. According to Box Office Mojo , Disney’s Frozen is now at $1.072 billion. That number is important because it surpassed $1.066 billion, where Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is, meaning Frozen is officially in the top ten.
Technically, Disney’s Frozen is in the #10 spot as of now, but it is still playing at the box office in other countries around the world. This may give Frozen the chance to surpass the #1 movie by Disney, or one of their affiliations (being Marvel for this matter), Marvel’s The Avengers , which is sitting at $1.518 billion.
The possibility of Disney’s Frozen taking the top two spots on its initial run are very minimal to almost impossible. Both of James Cameron’s mega-blockbusters, Avatar and Titanic , respectively take the top two spots of the list. They are also the only movies on the list to surpass the $2 billion in box office sales. It is kind of unfair to expect Frozen to surpass the top two films because they’ve been given second runs in the box office. Titanic , for example, received a second run in the theater with an HD remake. It even got a third run when it was remade in 3D. Avatar received a second run as an “extended theatrical re-release”. Also, higher ticket prices at IMAX theaters helped with the numbers.
Disney’s Frozen is presently doing well with their blu-ray and DVD sales, but it seems there is more to the movie, especially with the conspiracy that Frozen and Tangled are connected . The conspiracy received an extension when The Little Mermaid was thrown into the mix. Still, it doesn’t take away from the fact that Frozen is the highest grossing animated film of all time. Like all records, they are made to be broken. Maybe the collaboration between Disney Animated Films and Marvel may dethrone Disney’s take on the “Snow Queen”.
Until then, Disney’s Frozen can enjoy its latest success.
