The Price Is Right Trumps All Other Game Shows
The Price is Right first aired back in 1956 and currently airs on CBS, making it the longest running game show in the history of television. The show was originally hosted by Bill Cullen. According to Wikipedia, Cullen hosted The Price Is Right until NBC decided to drop it when the ratings decreased.
After The Price is Right had been off the air for a period of almost 7 years, CBS picked it back up and brought in Bob Barker as its host. Barker remained as the host until 2007, when Drew Carey became the new The Price Is Right front man, and is still the host today.
Over the course of the years, there have been countless unforgettable moments aired on The Price Is Right. The kind of moments that make viewers fall out of their chairs laughing or yell at the TV at the crazy contestants.
One The Price Is Right contestant decided to propose from the stage, just prior to spinning the big wheel. While that doesn’t seem too odd, one couldn’t help but speculate as to who would say yes to a man wearing shorts with a T-shirt reading “2399 Miles 2 times to meet Bob.” But, if that wouldn’t make one question a bit, when he pulls out the ring and tries to balance it on his nose, even Bob Barker has to ask him if this is for real. It all seems a bit surreal until we see his hopeful girlfriend in the audience, crying, wearing the exact same T-Shirt. However, she didn’t say yes until he won $1000 from spinning the will, as well as The Price Is Right showcase showdown.
Nonetheless, we all have nightmares about what happened to contestant Patricia Bernard. You finally get tickets to attend The Price Is Right, you plan your trip, tell all your family and friends, arrive and anxiously await in the studio audience to hear your name, just like she did. “Patricia Bernard! Come On Down! You’re the next contestant on The Price Is Right!” Only, she was nowhere to be found. It was like trying to find Waldo. The cameras kept spanning the audience, per MentalFloss.com, but there was no Patricia Bernard.
It wasn’t long before her husband stood up and explained that she had to go to the bathroom, and that he would go get her. The audience broke out in laughter as Bob Barker stood there in disbelief. Well, Bob, when you’ve got to go, you’ve got to go!
There is always one moment that stands out above all others. And Bob Barker remembers one in particular that he admits to HLNtv.com. It was in 1977, and the contestant’s name was Yolanda. When The Price is Right beckoned her to come on down, Yolanda must have forgotten her wardrobe selection that day. As she ran and jumped all the way down the aisle to the front of the stage, her tube top had worked it’s way down and had become a belt. Bob still blushes about that at the ripe old age of ninety.
