Calvin Harris, Prince Help British Singer Rita Ora Conquer America
Calvin Harris and “Minneapolis sound” pioneer Prince are helping British songstress Rita Ora conquer the wilds of America.
Although folks across the pond are familiar with her musical stylings, the singer is hoping her sophomore album lands in the laps of fans in the United States. To make her next endeavor a huge success, she tapped a host of famous faces to lend a helping hand. One of the people assisting Ora with her effort is boyfriend Calvin Harris.
According to Rap-Up, Harris helped his girlfriend with her first single “I Will Never Let You Down.” Rita and Calvin are no doubt hoping the song is strong enough to capture the ears and wallets of music fans in America.
“It’s obviously a very important song to me because it’s a love song, but it reminds you of Whitney [Houston]. And that was the vibe we were on. We just wanted to feel good. You know that feeling of ‘How Will I Know’ with the synth? It just makes you feel happy; that’s what I wanted to create,” she told Paper magazine.
The singer added, “Conquering America for a UK artist is incredible because that’s what everybody wants and dreams about. So yeah, I am a bit nervous. I am a bit scared, I’ll be honest.”
If Ora is extremely nervous about how Stateside fans will react to her sophomore release, then at least she has Calvin Harris in her corner. She also received some assistance from Prince and Grammy-winning rapper Macklemore. In other words, there’s no reason why her album shouldn’t make a splash in the US.
“[Prince and I] did a few tracks together. I flew to Minneapolis and went to Paisley Park, which is like his iconic studios and we just made music. I was there for a week. It was the best thing I have ever done in my life,” she said.
Although Calvin Harris decided to give his girlfriend a hand with her next album, the DJ isn’t overly concerned about putting together a record of his own at the moment. Instead, he’s perfectly happy just dumping singles on the masses.
“So far I’m good at singles, I am, I can say that now I’ve got the proof. The next one, it’s taken a while, but I think it’s gonna be a good one. It’s taken a long time,” he explained during a quick chat with Capital FM at the 2014 Brit Awards.
