Giuliana Rancic Says Russell Crowe Was ‘So Mean’ In Most Awkward Interview Ever
On Wednesday, Giuliana Rancic revealed that New Zealand born actor Russell Crowe was her most awkward interview to date and “he was so mean” to her when she was a relative newbie at E! News.
While visiting the set of Watch What Happens Live! Giuliana Rancic — who is a celebrity reporter and a staple of red carpets for big Hollywood events — told host Andy Cohen when asked which was her most awkward interview ever:
“There have been a lot of awkward ones. Oh I know (…) duh! Russell Crowe!. [He] was so mean to me.”
“Oh hey Russell, what’s up?”
“I had been at E! for a year, and I literally was like, ‘I’m gonna go easy because he’s pretty tough. And so I said, ‘Are you excited to be here tonight? Your big movie premiere?’ And he goes, ‘I’m contractually obligated to be here. What’s your next question?'”
Giuliana, who was not as comfortable in front of big name celebrities as she is now, became a bit flustered, but continued with her questions recalling her next question:
“Um, isn’t it wonderful seeing all the fans?”
“And he goes, ‘That’s your second question?’ And he goes, ‘1, 2, you’re through!’ And walked away.”
Shocking! However, there have been stories that the 49-year-old actor is difficult to work with and a teeny bit aggressive. Case and point, he once threatened to kill one of his Gladiator producers, so Giuliana Rancic could count herself as lucky in the big scheme of things.
Russell attempted to defend himself in 2010, while promoting his film Robin Hood:
“When you read it in black and white it sounds like I was being ridiculously aggressive, but one of the main misunderstandings is that I’ve been sold as an angry person and that’s just not true.”
“I certainly have a temper that can flare up, but having a temper is a completely different thing from being an angry person.”
Following Giuliana’s disastrous encounter with Crowe, the fateful day had something else in store for Rancic, as she would go on to successfully interview Bill, the Celebrity Apprentice winner and her future husband, who later on asked her out in the parking lot.
The couple got engaged in December of 2006 and married on September 1, 2007. Later on Giuliana Rancic was diagnosed with early stage breast cancer, which she chronicled in their reality TV show Giuliana And Bill.
After failing to get pregnant, Giuliana went on to attempt in-vitro fertilization and finally decided to use a surrogate, after several failed attempts and a miscarriage.
Giuliana and Bill Rancic finally welcomed Edward Duke on August 29, 2012.
