Calvin Harris Predicts That Summer Is On The Way
Calvin Harris to the rescue of all the people who are fed up with snow and freezing temperatures. Calvin is out to make us forget the cold, and focus on what is just around the corner – Summer – which happens to be the name of his new single that was released Friday. It may not officially even be Spring, but most people are on the same wavelength as Harris and want to jump straight to Summer.
Calvin appears to be excited about this song, as he recently tweeted about its release: “1 week until my new track premieres I’m excited for you to hear it!!!” Summer, not unexpectedly, is a song about falling in love in the summertime. Go figure. Cynics among us may feel that Harris is merely looking to catch the Blurred Lines syndrome, becoming the hit of the season, and soaking up not only the sun but also plenty of money.
The Scottish dance hit king, Harris, has become known more for his collaborations than for singing solo. To date Harris has scored 15 Top 10 hits, including five No. 1s. Summer is the first track released from Harris’ album, which has yet to be titled.
While Harris sang solo on his earlier work, after breaking big, he vowed that he’d no longer be singing his own songs. Calvin scored hits in his famous collaborations with Rihanna, Ellie Goulding and Florence Welch. Apparently Harris has had a change of heart about singing lead vocals, as he is all alone while singing Summer. If you haven’t heard it yet, take a listen:
Calvin Harris’ last album, 18 Months(2012), included hits like We Found Love with Rihanna, I Need Your Love with Ellie Goulding and Bounce with Kelis, and has sold 173,000 copies to date, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Harris recently teased that he has yet another major collaboration ready to be rolled out, but can’t confirm any of the details until it’s signed off, saying: “There’s another one and it’s all done and I’ve got to convince him it’s good.” Based on his past performance, Harris’ fans should be expecting something big.
Fans can catch Harris perform Summer and his other singles at Coachella and EDC New York this year. His Ibiza residency is set for this summer, with details forthcoming.
Do you think that Summer will nab Calvin Harris the top song of the season? If you are a Calvin Harris fan, do you prefer him singing solo, like in Summer, or would you rather he collaborate with another star? Let us know with your comments.
