Ronda Rousey Willing To Move Up In Weight To Fight Gina Carano
Ronda Rousey, the current UFC women’s bantamweight champion, will fight in her former weight class for only one person…if she were to return from retirement.
At this moment, according to MMA Junkie, Ronda Rousey sees Cat Zingano as the next challenger to her UFC women’s bantamweight title. It will be an undefeated record versus an undefeated record. Ronda stands at 8-0 in MMA, 3-0 in UFC. However, Cat is short by two wins, being at 8-0 in MMA, 1-0 in UFC. If they were to fight, someone’s streak is breaking.
However, the entire MMA community is looking to see if the “dream match” within the women’s division, is possible: Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano. According to Yahoo Sports, UFC president, Dana White, would love to have former Strikeforce champion, Gina Carano, fight for UFC. Also, Ronda is more than willing, to take on Gina in a fight.
Rumors of Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano started when commentator, Joe Rogan, said big news was going to be announced soon in women’s UFC action. The statement was broad and left many fans wondering if that big news could be Gina Carano’s return. If Gina were to return, she would need to dust off five years of ring rust, since her last fight was back in 2009. Also, when Gina fought, she had trouble making the 140 to 145 pound weight class. One example of this, was during Gina’s championship fight against Cristaine “Cyborg” Justino, when she had to strip down to make weight. Because of her troubles making weight in the past, it would be very unlikely Gina would successfully come down to 135 pounds, just to challenge Ronda for the belt.
However, Ronda Rousey is willing to gain weight just to make the Ronda Rousey versus Gina Carano “dream fight”, possible. Rhonda expressed this in saying:
“For Gina, there would be exceptions that I would make for Gina that I wouldn’t for anyone else.”
“To fight her (Gina) would be a real honor. It would be a real milestone for the sport.”
Also, Ronda Rousey said her next fight would be ideal in late summer, shortly before Expendables 3 releases in theaters. However, Ronda stated she does not believe in rumors until contracts are signed.
