The upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight game has been confirmed as a follow-up to the ever popular Arkham City , and Rocksteady is back in control. After the unimpressive third game in the series, the final chapter is set to be made only for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC with a tour de force that should bring the fans back. This also means that it should be graphically impressive enough to give us a definitive finale and leave gamers satisfied once more.
By the end of Arkham City , Batman had rounded up nearly every villain and seen the deaths of two of the biggest threats to Gotham’s peace of mind. So far it’s unclear exactly who is in charge of the newest threat, with rumors of Two-Face and Hush being the most popular, and Harley Quinn being a prominent villain this time around. With the apparent death of the Joker and an Easter Egg revealing she was pregnant in Arkham City , Quinn has a lot of incentive to see the dark knight fall.
The Batman: Arkham Knight game screens reveal a few things we know from the last wave of news about the latest entry. Among the pictures revealed is the Penguin, looking just as ornery as ever against a backdrop of neon lights. Another shows the Riddler, projected over a drapery in a field of green question marks as always. Commissioner Gordon is also seen in a closeup against a backdrop of the Gotham City Police Department.
Another screen shot (at the top) shows us Batman gliding over Gotham City, revealing the expanse of just a section of the world we will have to fight crime in. There will certainly be more than enough area to cover as you look for clues and fight off thugs in the streets. Add to this the Batmobile being available for the first time in the series, and the combat and travel methods will be taken to the next level. Hopefully the Batman: Arkham Knight game will see the return of the Batwing as a fast travel method.
This could also be the first time we see Barbara Gordon (AKA Oracle) in action, meaning we might see some cameos from characters we’ve only heard of before. So far there are no screenshots or videos to confirm the appearance of Hush, though he was never really dealt with and we will probably see him again in Arkham Knight .
Rocksteady’s latest is scheduled to be released this year, with a rumored October release date based on an ad promising the chance to play as Harley Quinn if you preorder the Batman: Arkham Knight game.
Are you excited to play the finale to the dark knight’s reign over law and order in Gotham City?
