Kevin Hart Scores MTV Movie Award Nomination For ‘Ride Along’
Kevin Hart could walk away with an MTV Movie Award for his role in the box office hit Ride Along. The ceremony is presently scheduled to take place next month.
The stand-up comedian proved he’s a serious cinematic force earlier this year. Not only did Tim Story’s comedy top the box office in the US for three weeks straight, Hart also scored a modest hit with the remake of About Last Night. Kevin has Think Like a Man Too scheduled for this summer, a flick that also stands to make a ton of cash.
Since folks loved seeing Kevin Hart and Ice Cube do their thing in Ride Along, the pair were nominated for best on-screen duo at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards. The guys will square off against such award-winning actors as Christian Bale, Jared Leto, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
Who cast Kevin Hart in the box office flick? According to The Associated Press, Ice Cube decided to cast the stand-up comedian in the movie. Although the rapper had the project in development for several years, he wisely waited until the right co-star came along before moving forward.
“We had the movie for five or six years and we saw Kevin Hart blowing up. We knew we could throw a few folks in that I’d worked with in the past, but we wanted it to feel fresh. It became a dream team. Being number one for three weeks is something we weren’t expecting. To be the cream of the crop is no easy feat. It’s a big deal. I’ve been on cloud nine,” he explained.
The Inquisitr previously reported that Ride Along 2 is already in the works. Not only will Kevin Hart and Ice Cube reprise their respective roles, director Tim Story is returning for the follow-up as well. Shooting on the project should begin this summer.
The rapper said that getting a sequel off the ground was surprisingly easy given the original’s worldwide success. He explained, “When the studio saw the preview numbers, they were excited, so we are in good shape. It was something we weren’t expecting, but we have a script and we might be ready to shoot in June or July. The film has also done well in Egypt and Lebanon. Hopefully we’ll go to other territories, like hitting Australia with it.”
Kevin Hart and Ice Cube fans will find out if the guys are good enough to win an award for best on-screen duo next month. The 2014 MTV Movie Awards should take place in Los Angeles on April 13.
