Sarah Jessica Parker Shoots Down ‘Sex And The City 3’ Rumors
Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t want you to get your hopes up about another Sex and the City movie. According to the actress, nobody seems keen on making the flick anytime soon.
Although the motion pictures based on the popular HBO series made some serious cash during their respective jaunts through theaters, apparently Warner Bros. hasn’t made any plans to move forward with another installment. That’s what the actress says, at least.
The time next you decide to bug Sarah Jessica Parker about the sequel when you see her on the street, don’t expect her to give you any fancy answers. During her recent appearance on Ellen, Parker admitted that she’s run out of clever responses to give fans.
“I’ve tried to make up some interesting answers every time I’ve been asked this question lately. The truth of the matter is there has been no real conversation about a third movie at all,” Sarah told DeGeneres during their chat.
Rumors about Sex and the City 3 have made the rounds quite a bit in recent months. Although Sarah Jessica Parker doesn’t think the movie will happen anytime soon, writer Michael Patrick King seemed to think another flick is possible if they find the right story to tell.
“It’s all really about the stories, and if you actually think you have something left to say that would make it exciting and worthwhile for the fans’ time, that’s really the question. Not whether you can get away with it, not whether anybody will buy it, not whether you can make money on it,” King told Entertainment Weekly in February.
Sarah Jessica Parker told InStyle earlier this year that another Sex and the City is theoretically possible. However, she stopped short of revealing when or if the flick would ever happen. Even co-star Kristin Davis gave fans hope that another installment could happen down the road.
“I don’t think [a third film] is a pipe dream, there is discussion. People talk about it amongst the people who are the players, but I don’t know if it will come together. It would be very exciting if it did,” she explained to Haute Living.
Judging from the box office results for Sex and the City 2, there’s apparently still a market for the franchise. Although the $100 million comedy only made $95 million in the US, it raked in an impressive $193 million in foreign markets. Why Warner Bros. is dragging its heels on another entry in the series is anybody’s guess.
