A Brett Favre spotting the other day showed the former gun slinging quarterback growing a beard that seems to have Duck Dynasty aspirations. Favre, 44, has been retired from the NFL since 2011, but that has stopped his involvement with the game. As recently as 2013, rumors were swirling that Brett Favre might step in to save the St. Louis Ram’s season .
But sightings of one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks ever are rare these days. Even though Brett Favre was in the news last week for saying Jonny Maniziel looked like a young Brett Favre , not many pictures have surfaced. That is until ESPN ‘s Steve Braband managed to snap a shot of Favre at an event this week.

His mountain man style beard and bulging forearms must be the result of stressing over the high school team he coaches and working out with the young bucks. But Brett Favre has a long way to go if he wants to get a spot with Duck Commander. The Favre beard is impressive for the normally clean shaven or scruffy face of the retired quarterback, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the Duck Dynasty crew.
The parallel’s are there for sure. Duck Commander is based in West Monroe, Louisiana which is just a quick three hour trip from Brett Favre’s home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Of course his beard has a long way to go, but now there is a football tie between the two. Recently, the Duck Commander team became the official sponsors of the Independence Bowl . Maybe they are looking for a director of football operations or something like that?
Brett Favre told reporters at the event in Orlando that the beard was really all about laziness. Something most any man can relate to. “I started [growing the beard] at the end of our high school football season. It’s that transition from hot to colder hunting season and… blah blah blah.. I just got lazy,” he told the NFL network back in February . Of course the facial hair grooming habits of Brett Favre are really not that important anyways.
But like Duck Dynasty and Duck Commander, Brett Favre keeps finding his way into the news.
