Respawn Confirms ‘Titanfall’ Season Pass and Free DLC
A Titnfall Season Pass along with free DLC for the soon to be released Xbox One “killer app” was confirmed during The Lobby on Gamespot. Respawn, the developer behind the forthcoming game, revealed the existence of a season pass for the online shooter as well as free DLC.
Season passes are a relatively new way for developers to sell game downloadable content up front. In some cases the DLC is not detailed, only promised and other studios give detailed plans on their planned content offerings. The season pass is usually sold at a discount to entice players to purchase the DLC in advance rather than pay the more expensive prospect of paying for each piece of DLC individually.
While the contents of the Titanfall season pass have not beed details yet, we were given an idea as to what to expect for the free DLC. According to Zampella, “We’re going to do paid DLC. We’re also going to do free updates. There are things that we want in the game that we didn’t get to ship in the final game. So we’ll add private matches and things like that for free. There will be some paid DLC. We’re going to do a season pass just because if you buy it up front, it’s a deal. We’re not going to do microtransactions. You just buy it up front, and you get a better price.”
The DLC will be available for the Xbox One and PC, but the Xbox 360 version of the game being developed by Bluepoint Games, will receive updates after the Xbox One and PC. The goal is to keep the experiences the same on both the new hardware and the aging 7 year old console which has a much larger install base than the new Xbox One. Zampella commented, “That’s the goal. The game’s obviously not done yet. They’re doing a port of our game, so as we come in hot, we just certified our day one patch, so they have to take that and integrate it into their game, so they’re naturally lagging behind us. The goal is to get to get it as close as possible; it obviously won’t be exact since it’s on a less-powerful system.”
Titanfall will release for the Xbox One and PC on March 11 with the Xbox 360 version later on March 25.
