Pharrell Williams Gets The Oscar Party Started With ‘Happy’ Performance [Video]
The 86th Academy Awards got off to a great start when Pharrell Williams came on stage and helped all the nervous anticipation settle with a performance of his song “Happy.”
Williams was at the Oscars singing his Despicable Me 2 hit, which was nominated for Best Original Song along with U2’s “Ordinary Love” from Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, Karen O’s “The Moon Song” from Her, and “Let It Go” by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez from Frozen.
As is usual now Pharrell Williams was wearing his trademark, oversized Vivienne Westwood hat along with a black Adidas jacket, jeans, and red sneakers. He was joined on stage by a group of energetic dancers and a high school choir.
The 40-year-old rapper, loosened things up and literally got to dance with the stars when he got up close an personal with some of the nominated actresses sitting in the front row.
Pharrell Williams chose Best Supporting Actress winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave) first and she wasn’t shy getting up from her seat and shaking it to the catchy beat. The Mexican born actress was wearing a very low cut, but gorgeous Prada, light blue gown and looked radiant.

After being successful with Lupita, Pharrell Williams set his sights on another nominated actress, Meryl Streep, nominated for August: Osage County and was sitting next to the isle. If anyone thought she would avoid rapping with Williams, they were in for a surprise as the 64-year Oscar winner showed some of her best moves.

Last, but not least, Pharrell went over to Amy Adams, nominated for American Hustle and wearing her Oscar de la Renta blue, strapless gown, who shared some of her sexiest moves.

The rapper got the entire audience attending the ceremony at the Dolby Theater on their feet and received a rousing ovation. U2’s “The Edge” was seen cheering loudly.
Pharrell Williams told Billboard “Happy” is “‘about Gru and being happy and this relentless mood that can’t be changed.'” It is also featured on the rapper’s latest album, G I R L — his first in eight years — which is officially released Monday, March 3 and also available in iTunes.
