Lyoto Machida VS Chris Weidman: UFC 173 Knocks Out Vitor Belfort Over Drugs
Lyoto Machida VS Chris Weidman is now the final plan for UFC 173 now that Vitor Belfort won’t be Weldman’s opponent for the night.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, Ronda Rousey was booed after her extremely short fight with Sarah McMann, but she’s made it extremely clear she enjoys being the UFC bad girl (and that she prefers Dwayne Johnson over CM Punk).
But why did the Vitor Belft VS Lyoto Machida fight so south in the first place? It turns out that Nevada made changes to their sports drugs enhancement policy:
“The Nevada State Athletic Commission recently altered its policy and no longer will permit testosterone use exemptions, and will not permit a TRT program. As other jurisdictions may follow suit, I am going to drop my TRT program and compete in MMA without it. Given the time constraints involved between now and my proposed next bout in May, I have determined not to apply for a license to fight in Nevada at this time.”
Chris Weidman famously took out Anderson Silva, leaving him with horrible leg injury. He’ll be defending his title for the second time against Lyoto Machida, who has a record of 21-4 MMA, 13-4 UFC. Weidman, on the other hand, is undefeated with a record of 11-0 MMA, 7-0 UFC.
Machida was highly critical of Belfort for his usage of TRT and might be looking forward to UFC 173 even more:
“I’m really excited for this opportunity to fight UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman. I’m going to train hard and be well prepared for this fight.”
Weidman, for his part, is also pumped up and is respectful of his opponent:
“Machida is a dangerous fighter and he knows what it takes to become champion. He’s been on my radar since he dropped to 185, so I’m looking forward to defending my title against him in May.”
What do you think about Vitor Belfort using performance enhancing drugs? Do you think UFC 173 will be just as a good with Lyoto Machida VS Chris Weidman?
