Daft Punk US Tour? Request To Perform At Devil’s Tower In Wyoming Is Just A Rumor

Did Daft Punk’s US tour get nixed by the National Park Service in Wyoming?

Before you start penning a series of very angry digital letters to the people who dedicate their lives to keeping the state parks nice and pretty, it would appear that recent reports aren’t exactly accurate. That’s right — the internet got something wrong.

A number of outlets recently reported that Daft Punk wanted to play at the base of Devil’s Tower National Monument in Wyoming during their upcoming tour. However, the folks at the National Park Service ultimately denied their respect. Not surprisingly, fans of the electronic duo were not exactly pleased about the situation.

Spokesman Reed Robinson told the Rapid City Journal:

“Anything that was proposed is a non-starter, is considered an adverse action according to the National Historic Preservation Act, and goes against the Park Service management approach… This being a night skies park and a natural park and a sacred site to 24 different tribes, that would be considered sacrilegious and gets into that ‘inappropriate use.’ And that meant maybe we would have to close portions of the main trail to facilitate this kind of stuff.”

While people were getting their underwear in a bind over the situation, the folks at Pitchfork decided to do a little legwork. According to the website, Daft Punk never applied to play at the Devil’s Tower in Wyoming. Talent agency ICM Partners did propose a concert at the Native American historical site, but they don’t represent Daft Punk.

ICM said in a statement to Pitchfork:

“ICM Partners approached the National Park Service regarding an event which would be held on private property but would include proposed lighting elements at Devils Tower. The agency submitted more than a dozen suggested performers, including Daft Punk, as a sample lineup to the National Park Service. As is the usual case with a music festival, the acts proposed were simply performers and not involved with the planning of this event.”

While you’re waiting for Daft Punk to officially announce a tour, you can spend some time listening to the electronic duo’s collaboration with Pharrell Williams. The tune “Gust of Wind” will appear on the producer’s upcoming solo album GIRL. Fans can expect the record to hit stores on March 3.

Unfortunately for fans of Daft Punk, the group hasn’t officially announced plans to tour the US as of this writing. Judging from the response the Devil’s Tower rumor received, people are definitely ready for some live shows.
