In what seems to be a perfect match, today it was announced that GIRLS creator, writer, and star Lena Dunham will be making her debut on Saturday Night Live . The actress, who shot to cult stardom on her HBO series three years ago will be host of the sketch comedy show.
This isn’t the first time Lena Dunham and SNL have crossed paths. During Tina Fey’s September episode as host, Dunham’s series GIRLS was the butt of a pretty hilarious digital short . The short starred Tina Fey as the Albanian GIRLS transplant. Fey’s character Blerta was stuck in a world she didn’t understand, and made new friends with the GIRLS characters, which were spot on impersonations of all the characters in Lena Dunham’s show.
At the time the GIRLS actor seemed to respond positively to the digital short that was poking fun of her series. Mindy Kaling had tweeted a photo of Dunham watching the parody at her house. Dunham eventually used her own Twitter to address the hilarious SNL short.
The SNL parody of Girls was a true honor.

Lena Dunham is set to host the March 8 episode of SNL , which will feature musical guest The National. NBC announced the news of Dunham’s debut on the show earlier today.
Dunham addressed her new hosting gig with a peppy tweet:
Thank you for the SNL love. Dream come true. Can’t wait to debut my character “girl who googled serial killers all night & has lots to say”!

It’s a bit strange that the GIRLS star hasn’t been tapped to host an episode until now. Then again, she’s probably extremely busy. In addition to having a hit series on HBO, the new SNL host also has a multi-million dollar memoir that’s ready to go to print. Dunham’s memoir has received plenty of press for its unorthodox $3.7 million advance that she was given by Random House.
The star’s book, which had leaked excerpts, is described by Gawker as “an invitation to get lost in the mind of a girl who is lost in her own mind,” and “literary lifecasting,” and their comments section shredder her even more ruthlessly (but that’s for you to discover).”
Even though not everyone seems to be a fan of Lena Dunham and her brand of 20-something comedy, it seems like the Golden Globe winner pretty much has it made.
