Wrecking Ball: Christina Grimmie Gives An Amazing Performance Of Miley Cyrus’s Song On ‘The Voice’
Christina Grimmie took the wrecking ball to Miley Cyrus as she sang the the song on the premiere of The Voice Monday night. Grimmie performed “Wrecking Ball” as her cover for the judges. The young singer got Usher, Shakira, and Levine to turn around within seconds of her performance, and Blake Shelton followed them a minute later. The Judge Christina Grimmie ended up choosing was Adam Levine. Grimmie definitely helped kicked off the season premiere of the Voice this year.
If you hadn’t heard of Miley Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball”, it was one of the crazy popstar’s biggest songs of 2013. “Wrecking Ball” is best known for the music video that had exploded with views on youtube. The “Wrecking Ball” music video had broken records for Vevo as the most viewed video in the first 24 hours of its release. The video received 19 million views, beating out One Directions “Best Song Ever” video which had 10.7 million views. Overall Cyrus’s “Wrecking Ball” was the most viewed video in 2013.
What made the video so popular was how surprising Miley Cyrus was in the video. Viewers were not expecting her to literally be swinging on a wrecking ball fully naked. Miley claims that the song and video were based on how her ex-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth hurt her.
Miley started acting out when at the VMA when she twerked all over the stage for her performance. The most surprising moment of the entire performance and the entire VMA was when Robin Thicke came out to perform his summer hit single “Blurred Lines” with Cyrus, but out of nowhere she walks in front of Robin Thicke while he’s singing, and then she starts twerking on him. The audience faces were so surprised at that astonishing moment. In an interview with Oprah, Thicke states that: “People ask me If I twerk, and I’m like, I’m the twerkee. I don’t twerk. I’m just twerked upon.“Oprah asked Thicke if he thought the performance was sexual, and his response was:
“Well I was onstage, so I didn’t see it. I’m not thinking sex, I’m thinking fun…I’m singing my butt off. I’m singing and I’m looking at the sky and I’m singing and I’m not really paying attention to all that. That’s on her”
Robin Thicke’s wife Paula Patton got to share her reaction on an interview on Watch What Happens Next, and she said that she wasn’t surprised at all, because they rehearsed so much.
Hopefully Christina Grimmie wont start twerking after her fabulous Wrecking Ball performance on The Voice.
