Zac Efron Reveals Details Of His Life After Rehab
During a recent interview with Today’s Savannah Guthrie, Zac Efron opened up about his life after rehab, with his co-stars Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller by his side.
“I know last year was a little bit hard. There were reports that you’d gone to rehab. Anything you want to share about that?” Guthrie asked. “I think mostly your fans just want to know how you’re doing and that you’re okay.”
While seemingly caught off guard, Efron answered the question by saying: “I’m in the best place I’ve ever been. I’ve never been this happy before. I’m extraordinarily grateful for these guys and to be here promoting this movie. I don’t know. Things are good. I don’t know. Thank you for asking.”
Efron, who made a name for himself on the Disney Channel’s High School Musical movies, recently starred in, and produced, the new film That Awkward Moment. I think Zac would agree that this was definitely an awkward moment for him.
Teller laughed that Guthrie’s questions were like a scene out of their movie. “Like right now, we didn’t prepare for these questions,” Teller joked. “These aren’t the questions we rehearsed.” Efron then chimed in saying: “We should have been ready for this!” Jokes aside, Efron says that he has genuinely enjoyed working with Jordan and Teller on the film.
“These guys are the best young actors I’ve ever worked with. I’m so excited. There’s never really been a movie like this. And all of us are just stoked to get it out there. We’re so happy to be in New York. This is where we made the film.”
In December 2013, Efron was seen at a LA Laker’s game wearing a blue AA chip. The chip represents six months of sobriety. “He’s had to go from being a party boy to being completely sober,” an insider close to Efron revealed to US Weekly. “It’s going to take time, but he’s handling it well.”
“It was an interesting year. I learned so many things. So much,” Efron told People of his brief stay in rehab in the spring of 2013. “The best part of it was being able to reflect upon that experience and realize how much I have learned about myself and the kind of man I want to be.”
During a press conference promoting That Awkward Moment, Efron said: “I’m so happy. I feel like I’m in a great place and I’m glad that I’m really here to share this moment with everybody and be present for all of it.”
