Miami Heat Rumor: Could Carmelo Anthony Join Powerhouse Team?

The Miami Heat are already stacked, but rumors say Carmelo Anthony could be joining the mix to create an even more super squad.

The scenario may seem unlikely at first glance, especially given Miami’s contract situation, but there is a way that Anthony could join LeBron James, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade in Miami.

First, the Miami Heat would need all of the Big Three to opt out of their contracts. If they can get all three to agree to it, then the Heat would be able to sign Carmelo Anthony — given that all three of them are willing to sign for $14 million .

Whether or not he ends up on the Miami Heat, Carmelo Anthony certainly has his future up in the air. The New York Knicks star has said he is open to staying in New York and could even play for less than a maximum contract.

But with Carmelo set to become a free agent in July, he is certain about one thing — he’s not looking for a trade and the Knicks aren’t looking to trade him.

“I know for a fact I’m not being traded,” Anthony said at the NBA’s All-Star weekend. “There’s two things: I know for a fact I’m not being traded and I’m not going in there and saying I want to be traded.”

Carmelo added that his only goal in free agency is to land at a team that can with a championship.

“As far as the money, it don’t really matter to me. If I go somewhere else I get paid, if I stay in New York I get paid,” Anthony said. “So as far as the money goes, that’s not my concern. My concern is being able to compete on a high level, at a championship level coming at this last stretch of my career.”

The Carmelo Antony to Miami Heat rumor may sound crazy to some NBA followers, but probably not a whole lot crazier than thinking back in 2010 that LeBron James and Chris Bosh would both decide to go to Miami together, creating the Eastern Conference powerhouse they’ve become.
