Bode Miller Wife Morgan Beck By His Side After Emotional Victory
Bode Miller had wife Morgan Beck by his side for one of the most emotional — and controversial — moments of his career.
After Bode became the oldest person ever to medal in the Olympic Alpine competition, he teared up and hugged wife Morgan Miller, a professional volleyball player. The two shared kisses and an intimate moment as Morgan pressed against the hood of Bode’s coat.
But the moment didn’t last long. NBC reporter Christin Cooper found Bode for an interview, but repeatedly asked about his brother Chelone, who died in April.
“I know you wanted to be here with Chelly experiencing these games; how much does it mean to you to come up with a great performance for him? And was it for him?” she asked
Bode Miller, who took the bronze medal in the race, was filled with tears during the interview, which many media critics say was out of bounds.
Miller was diplomatic in his answers.
“To be on the podium, it’s a really big day for me,” said Miller, who also finished eighth in downhill and sixth in super-combined. “Emotionally, I had a lot riding on it. I’m super, super happy.”
Bode Miller and his wife have been through some difficult patches together. In 2013 she suffered a miscarriage, but said she found a silver lining in the tragedy.
Morgan Beck said the miscarriage was fate so the couple could spend time with Bode’s child from a previous relationship. The Olympian has been in a contentious custody dispute with ex-girlfriend Sara McKenna over the 9-month old boy. McKenna was awarded temporary custody over the young son, but the exes then locked in a dispute over custody.
“It was awful. Morgan and I hadn’t planned on getting pregnant, but we were excited. In hindsight, now, we can see what an incredible challenge having two babies would have been. I don’t believe in fate- that everything happens for a reason- but Morgan does,” Bode said in an interview with Us Weekly.
But Bode Miller has his wife for support through it all.After he won the bronze medal, Morgan said to win despite so many setbacks “just shows how resilient Bode is.”
