Fans can watch the Team USA vs. Russia hockey match as the 2014 Sochi Olympics tournament heats up and two teams with medal aspirations face off.
The United States comes into the game after a resounding 7-1 victory over Slovakia, who were thought to be a tough opponent before getting dismantled by the Americans. Jonathan Quick, named the starting goaltender in somewhat of a surprise over the 2010 Vancouver Olympics MVP Ryan Miller, played well in net while the team went on the attack.
Now, fans who watch Team USA vs. Russia hockey match will get to see Quick again. In what looks to be the biggest game of the preliminary round, the Team USA braintrust decided to roll once again with the Los Angeles Kings netminder, who was viewed as the clear No. 1 for team officials during the entire process.
“Jonathan will be starting in net tomorrow. He played real well in Game 1,” said Coach Dan Bylsma. “I thought there were periods of inactivity in that game and he had to stay sharp, stay focused and it was followed by two or three big saves he had to make. I thought he played real well in the game and again in the next game he will.”
The game starts at 7:30 am ET on Saturday. It will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, but coverage is also being offered through NBC Sports online.
Team USA faces lightly regarded Slovenia on Sunday, so with back-to-back games it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Quick get a break and Ryan Miller take over in net.
But Quick’s play against Russia — a team with a lot of firepower including Washington Capitals star Alexander Ovechkin — could determine where he stands the rest of the way. If Quick were to falter, Bylsma could turn to Miller when the elimination portion of the tournament begins.
