The Walking Dead is definitely a threat to watch out for on television networks. After the show’s stunning mid season finale, the show finally made its long awaited return for their mid season premiere this past weekend. The big surprise is that the show returned with a huge boost in ratings.
The Walking Dead beat out Sochi’s Winter Olympic coverage The Beatles Tribute Special, and the popular show Downton Abbey. The Winter Olympics Coverage pulled in a 7 rating from adults range of 18-49, while The Walking Dead pulled in a whopping 8.2 rating from that same age group.
AMC Stated that 15.8 million viewers tuned in for the mid season premiere of the show. With 10.4 million adults from the age range of 18-49. With such strong ratings like this, its hard to imagine the show not bringing in millions of more viewers. What I found even more surprising though is the fact that the beginning of season four back in October still has the highest ratings of viewership of the show. the Viewership rating was 16.1 million viewers which is incredible for the show, and It even beat out the ratings for Sunday Night Football back in October.
Don’t Forget About Chris Hardwick’s Talking Dead after show which also adds to the viewership of The Walking Dead franchise. Hardwick’s after show brings in an extra 5.9 million viewers.
You must be living in a cave if this doesn’t want to make you want to watch a show like The Walking Dead. The show has been popular ever since it first premiered, and now they have made it to their season 4. Not to mention they have already been renewed for season 5.
If you didn’t catch the mid season premiere, here’s a small recap:
The show starts off by showing the aftermath of the mid season finale, and shows how everyone from the group is separated and on their own. This episode is based on Rick, Carl, and Michone.
Rick and Carl are together, but aren’t getting along due to Carl having resentment towards Rick for not being able to protect everyone, and letting everything fall apart. Michone however, is all by herself with her stylish sword, and we finally get to see some flashback of Michones past. Its episodes like these that really focus on the character’s psychology but that’s why the show is so great. Its not like your typical zombie movies, it focuses on what it would really be like to survive in a zombie apocalypse.
If you’re not watching The Walking Dead you are for sure missing out!
