‘Titanfall’ Beta Gameplay Details Revealed

The Titanfall beta is finally here. As we stated earlier, you have until Valentine’s Day to register. Some in the industry have already played the beta and have released details about what you can expect when EA’s massive mech title arrives for the public.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, the Titanfall gameplay will take place in and out of one of three mech styles. The Atlas will be the most agile of the three. The Ogre is the powerhouse which moves the slowest. The Stryder is the fastest mech available, which might help outmaneuver its more powerful siblings.

It was also mentioned before that the matches in Titanfall will support up to six players per team. This doesn’t mean that the medium-sized maps won’t give much room to maneuver, though. Titanfall gameplay will also move vertically, so there could possibly be Assassin’s Creed style parkour high above the ground, and plenty of places to lay low and take a break.

The Titanfall beta has revealed that the game plays incredibly smooth, even rivaling that of Call of Duty and Halo. Electronic Arts and Respawn may have a hit on their hands when the Titanfall release date arrives on March 11.

The game will limit your ability to pilot a mech, not letting you just run in like John Rambo and get all shot up just to have it replaced immediately. Titanfall will replicate real life scenarios by making you wait a specific amount of time before you get another one. It may be possible to have the game deliver your replacement right on top of a camping enemy if you wish.

Respawn design team leader Justin Hendry told the press last week about the Titanfall gameplay:

“‘Campaign Multiplayer’ takes you through a sequence of levels, each of which has an intro that explains what you’re going to do, and there’s a story that progresses. But you’re still playing a multiplayer match. … There are also things you can only unlock through the campaign, while some of the competitive modes are not also in ‘Campaign.’ Though, otherwise, everything is the same.”

According to the Titanfall beta, the multiplayer matches will be much like the campaign mode. There will be an ‘Attrition’ mode, which is team deathmatch, as well as ‘Hardpoint,’ a sort of capture-the-spot type scenario where you will need to stay put and defend rather than bring the typical “flag” back to your side. ‘Last Titan Standing’ is basically where you have only one life, and the winning team is the last one with any players left alive.

Don’t expect the Titanfall gameplay to change much between the mech and on foot. The two control schemes are mirrored almost perfectly. The double jump on foot will become a rapid dash in the mech. A grenade as a lone soldier will become a barrage of missiles in the mech. There will be little to learn between the two types of combat.

Call of Duty might look outdated when Titanfall hits, because you can play as a man or woman. However, you can’t change the appearance of your character, and there will be no mod support at launch. Maybe they will patch that in later or release DLC skins for gamers who crave individuality.

The Titanfall beta is proving that EA has a true next gen shooter on its way, bringing the combat to a new level.
