Oscar Pistorius Assault Case ‘Reaches Out-Of Court Settlement’

Oscar Pistorius has reached an “out of court settlement” with a woman who accused the Paralympian of assaulting her at a party in 2009.

24-year-old Cassidy Taylor-Memmory claimed that Pistorius injured her at a soiree he held in his house. She stated that the 27-year-old punched a door so hard after he’d had an argument with his then girlfriend that it fell onto her leg.

The South African’s attorney has confirmed that the legal battle has now ceased, after the two parties reached an agreement over legal fees. However, Pistorius has still refused to apologise for the incident, according to Memmory.

After learning of the case against him, Pistorius also launched a counter claim against Memmory, which was worth 2.2million Rand ($200,000), and saw him accuse the blogger of making up the story. However, this has now also been dropped.

It’s believed that Pistorius’ real-reason for the out-of-court settlement is so that now his attorneys can focus on the athlete’s upcoming trial for the alleged murder of Reeva Steenkamp.

Steenkamp, Pistorius’ girlfriend at the time of her death, was shot and killed by her beau in his Pretoria home on Valentine’s Day, 2013. Pistorius has claimed that he fired four shots through a locked bathroom door, which hit Steenkamp three times, but he was acting in self-defense because he thought she was an intruder.

Taylor-Memmory was invited to the party back in 2009 as a guest of Pistorius’ previous partner before he embarked on a relationship with Steenkamp. However, Pistorius and the unnamed woman soon got into such a ferocious fight that all of her guests were asked to leave. Memmory has previously written that he “used vulgar language,” to get them out of his house.

She then explained, “As I approached his large outside doors, Oscar was furiously trying to close them. He started to punch the door and then is when one of the top panels fell and hit my left leg. After this happened I went to tell Oscar that he had hurt me to which he replied ‘well, go call your f****** lawyer’.” Memmory admitted that Pistorius’ aggressive and unreasonable behavior took her completely by surprise.

Pistorius will stand trial on March 3rd for the murder of Steenkamp, and the disgraced sprint runner, who became the first double leg amputee to participate at the Olympics in 2012, could face up to 25 years in prison if he is found guilty.
