iPhone 6 Screen Size Rumors Claim Sapphire Retina Display Specs
Apple iPhone 6 screen specs rumors are claiming not only will the iPhone 6 display be bigger but that it may be made of hardened sapphire crystal.
In a related report by The Inquisitr, the iPhone 6 release date rumors are pointing to a time earlier in 2014. Some analysts believe Apple is moving up the launch date in order to compete with the Android smartphones that have been giving the iPhone 5S a run for the money.
The iPhone 6 sapphire screen rumors claim Apple is opening a manufacturing plant in Mesa, Arizona in order to manufacture the new design. As evidence, the website 9 to 5 Mac cites import and export records which reference sapphire inspection tools, sapphire, and chamber system units. If it’s true, then the iPhone 6 screen would be more scratch resistant than Corning’s Gorilla Glass. Combine this with rumors about a Liquidmetal body and it’s possible many iPhone 6 users might be able to get away with dropping their smartphones and not worrying about owning a hard case. As an example, sapphire is used in the home button of the iPhone 5S in order to prevent it from cracking.
Other than the sapphire display, the biggest iPhone screen size rumor is that we may see a phablet-sized iPhone that’s somewhere in the range of five to six inches. But Apple CEO Tim Cook isn’t ready to admit to any such rumors:
“We’re not ready to talk about it…. There will be new categories… but we’re working on some really great stuff…. There are many different parameters to measure a display and we care about all those, because we know that’s the window to the software. We want to give our customers what’s right in all respects – not just the size but in the resolution, in the clarity, in the contrast, in the reliability.”
It’s possible the iPhone 6 screen size will conform to the handheld size of four inches while Apple releases a new iPhone with another name to compete in the larger display size market. These new iPhone models will supposedly have displays measuring 4.7 and 5.7 inches and might even be running the full 1080 resolution. (It should be noted that an iPhone 6 retina display would be overkill since our eyes couldn’t see the difference.) A newer rumor claims Apple will call a 5.1-inch smartphone the iPhone Air although there’s nothing but concept art as the basis for that idea.
