Bruno Mars Returns To The Billboard 200 Following Super Bowl Performance
Bruno Mars has a few new fans following his stint at the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
The singer received several strong reviews from fans and critics alike for his stint at the annual sporting event. Not surprisingly, his performance at the Super Bowl is translating into increased sales of his 2012 album Unorthodox Jukebox.
According to the folks at Billboard, Bruno Mars is likely to find his record in one of the top three spots on the Billboard 200 chart. Reports suggest the album sold around 70,000 and 80,000 copies since his performance during the halftime show.
Unorthodox Jukebox isn’t the only Bruno Mars album that is enjoying some brisk sales as of late. Doo-Wops & Hooligans also jumped several notches on the Billboard 200, selling an estimate 16,000 copies in the span of seven days.
Mars also conquered the iTunes chart following his appearance at the Super Bowl. His 2012 album occupied the number one position, while Doo-Wops & Hooligans landed at number three. The soundtrack to Disney’s animated hit Frozen found its way between the singer’s extremely popular records.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers, who joined Bruno Mars on-stage during the show, also enjoyed a boost in sales following their performance. The band’s Greatest Hits album jumped several positions to number six shortly after the Super Bowl.
Of course, many fans took issue with the fact that the group didn’t perform live during the halftime show. Although bassist Flea explained that they had to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the NFL, this didn’t stop fans from crying foul.
One person who took serious issue with the Red Hot Chili Peppers and their performance at the Super Bowl was Gun N’ Roses singer Axl Rose. The frontman decided to shame the band by publishing a decidedly generic op-ed on the subject.
Rose explained:
“So consider that maybe sometime before their actual performance that rather than use a guitar cord or standard wireless, that in the name of science and for all mankind Flea courageously had a newly invented breakthrough in microchip technology installed in his ass that picked up the frequencies of his bass and transmitted them to his amplifier. Maybe they all had microchips installed in their asses and not only pick up the frequencies of their instruments but get Direct TV and the internet too! Like Google Glass… Google Ass!”
Are you surprised that Bruno Mars is back towards the top of the Billboard 200? What did you think of the singer’s Super Bowl performance?
