Flappy Bird Raking In $50,000 A Day

Flappy Bird is another one of those things that the world just doesn’t need… Another highly addicting smartphone game to keep us all distracted from our daily tasks. Now, I’m not bashing the game because, admittedly, it is fun and simple enough for almost all users. The game is even reportedly raking in a smooth $50,000 in revenue daily.

According to the Los Angeles Times , Flappy Bird was created by Vietnamese developer Don Nguyen, and is one of the hottest games and apps for both the iPhone and Andriod devices. As stated in an earlier report by The Inquisitr , the game is simple enough.

“All users have to do is click the screen to help a bird float along in an 8-bit world that looks incredibly similar to Super Mario Bros., weaving it between green pipes. Hit a pipe, you die.”

Though I have to say… I don’t remember dieing when I ran into a green pipe in Super Mario Bros., unless a Piranha was lurking inside and happened to eat me.

Flappy Bird has been sitting at the top of the charts for nearly a month now, and is one of the top free gaming apps in the store. According to The Verge , the game is earning, on average, $50,000 a day from in-app ads. The game itself is of course free to download, and has so far been downloaded 50 million times, and according to The Verge , has accumulated over 47,000 reviews in the App Store, “as many as apps like Evernote and Gmail”.

“The reason Flappy Bird is so popular is that it happens to be something different from mobile games today, and is a really good game to compete against each other,” Nguyen says. “People in the same classroom can play and compete easily because [Flappy Bird] is simple to learn, but you need skill to get a high score.”

When asked if he was considering changing the game, or even creating a sequel to it, Nguyen said that Flappy Bird has reached a state where anything added to the game will ruin it somehow, so I’d like to leave it as is. I will think about a sequel but I’m not sure about the timeline.”

The Inquisitr reported that the game never gets any easier. Justin Davis of IGN noted that “Even with a 50+ high score and most runs climbing well into the double digits, you’ll still die on the first or second gap. A lot. You never feel safe or comfortable in Flappy Bird’s gauntlet. The game is still out to kill you. And it will.”
