Demi Lovato Says No To Drugs And Alcohol On Her Neon Lights Tour
Demi Lovato is keeping everyone clean and sober on her upcoming tour.
The former X Factor judge is playing a handful of shows this year, gigs that will take the singer to various sections of the globe. To make sure everyone remains on their best behavior, Lovato reportedly banned everyone from using drugs and alcohol.
It’s no secret that Demi Lovato struggled with addiction in the past. Since she doesn’t want any temptation while on the road, she’s asked that her crew and the opening acts refrain from getting wasted during the tour. The singer also wants to make sure that fans get the best experience possible.
“Everyone on the team is required to stay clean and focused. It’s not about trying to party. It’s about putting on the best show and everyone needs to be in tip top shape. That’s how it should be for every tour,” Lovato explained to Extra.
Demi told Access Hollywood late last year that some fans might have a hard time accepting the shocking things she did while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. This made her extremely reluctant to share these experiences with the public.
The singer explained:
“Something I’ve never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn’t go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes. I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I’d sneak to the bathroom and I’d do it.”
During her recent chat with the folks at Extra, Demi Lovato also took a moment to discuss the recent drug-related death of award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. She hopes the actor’s passing will help people understand the seriousness of addiction.
“It’s a mental illness and it’s a disease… There’s no pill that’s gonna change it. People need to have compassion for it,” she told the outlet.
Lovato added, “Rather than, being a former addict, looking at it as I had a choice, because at some point in my disease I didn’t. I physically and emotionally couldn’t live without it. That was my medicine to my pain.”
