Austin Mahone Is In Denial Over Selena Gomez Relationship

Look out girls! It looks like Austin Mahone, 17, is back on the market after all! Though rumors have been circulating regarding a possible relationship with Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber’s ex, Mahone is denying the rumors and claiming they are just “close friends”.

Taylor Swift, a mutual friend of the couple (or not?), played matchmaker by allegedly setting Mahone and Gomez up on a date. Then, to Austin’s surprise, he woke up Wednesday, January 29, to the news that he was supposedly dating Selena. Boy, do relationships move quickly nowadays.

When reporters asked Austin point blank, about the dating rumors, he took the chance to set the record straight. While he referred to Gomez as “awesome” and “very talented”, he remained firm in saying that they were not an item. “No definitely not,” Austin told E! News. “We’re just close friends. She’s awesome. Very talented, sweet girl.”

Mahone seemed to be caught completely off guard over his new “romance”, calling it “the most random thing ever.” He definitely admires the brunette teen superstar, but that does not qualify them as being a couple.

“It’s pretty crazy,” Mahone said. “Like I just woke up and they’re like, ‘Oh yeah by the way they say you’re dating Selena Gomez..’ Like what?! That’s the most random thing ever.”

While the rumors may seem random, this is not the first time that Mahone and Gomez have been considered romantically involved. Back in the Summer, the two were spotted at Disneyland together, and then were later seen hanging out one-on-one with each other.

“Selena was in the center of the group,” an eyewitness told E! News in June 2013. “You could tell she didn’t really want to be seen. They had just gotten off of Space Mountain and were heading towards the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage…The group was having fun, laughing and dancing a bit.”

Despite the Summer outing, a source close to the pair backed up Mahone, saying, “They’re really good friends and have a lot of fun together.”

What the media apparently does not understand is just because two friends want to hang out together, and maybe take an adventure to Disneyland, that does NOT mean they are dating. Can’t guys have friends that are girls? Well, that may be up for debate, but in this case, Mahone and Gomez are just that… nothing more.
