‘Titanfall’ Gameplay Includes Only Three Mechs At Launch, Developer Respawn Nervous
The Titanfall gameplay has developer Respawn nervous, releasing only three mechs and hoping everything starts out as smoothly as possible. Considering that EA is behind the publication on the Titanfall release date, and with the history of games the publisher has released in the past year, Respawn has every right to be nervous.
SimCity had launched with an online-only requirement and servers that weren’t up to the task, contributing to Electronic Arts being considered one of the worst companies of 2013. A few months later, Battlefield 4 was released with even worse issues. EA once again failed to deliver the servers necessary to make it work, and the game was clearly unfinished. With that track record, Respawn is hoping to break the trend of bad EA launches with Titanfall.
Despite the Titanfall gameplay launching with only three mechs, there is a DLC expansion being planned for the third quarter of 2014. It could be possible that more mechs are coming with it, but for now we will have to be content with titans reportedly called Ogre, Stryder, and Atlas.
@DMC_Ryan there are not more than 3 titans. Bam! Knowledge ?

It is assumable that Ogre will be the one that carries more weapons and is harder to maneuver, while Stryder is the opposite, and Atlas could just be the largest of the three, packing more melee power and agility. This is only speculation, and until Respawn confirms it, don’t take it as fact.
Respawn Entertainment community manager Abbie Heppe confirmed the fact that three titans will be available for Titanfall gameplay on its release date as a response to a fan on Twitter. The fan asked for specifics, stating how little we know so far about the game, and Abbie’s answer was short and still didn’t reveal much. Apparently, they’re hoping to keep everything under wraps until the game hits the shelves.
@Pikepointzero yes, but mixed with a bit of fear. We want the launch to be as smooth as possible. Beta should help. — Vince Zampella (@VinceZampella) February 2, 2014
Once again, considering the recent history of publisher EA, Respawn co-founder Vince Zampella‘s response to another fan question seems well founded. He probably doesn’t want to see another launch plagued with server problems and glitches. Another fan asked him if it would be possible to upload beta footage of Titanfall gameplay to YouTube, and Zampella replied that it should be possible, that it won’t be restricted like the alpha.
@iDoriitoz should be, it won’t be restricted like the alpha

It sounds like Respawn is going out of their way to ensure fans won’t have too many hiccups trying to bring the game online when the Titanfall release date hits. If it launches with minimal issues, Titanfall‘s six-against-six matches could make it a must-own title for the Xbox One and possibly turn the console’s reputation around. Respawn’s much-hyped mech shooter is also coming to Xbox 360 and Windows, but none of Sony’s consoles.
