Plaxico Burris Out of Jail, Headed to Eagles?
Plaxico Burris, the former New York Giants star wide receiver, was walked out of prison a free man shortly after 9:00am this morning.
Prior to his release, Burris had been locked up for more than 20 months for illegally carrying and firing a weapon at a popular Manhattan night club.
Burris, whose son was born while he was in jail, had the following to say:
“I just want to thank God for bringing me through one of the most trying times in my life. It’s a beautiful day, it’s a beautiful day to get to be reunited with my family and go home for some quality time with them.”
Plaxico, now 34, is rumored to possibly make a return to the NFL by joining the Philadelphia Eagles, partially due to the fact that he and QB Mike Vick share similar life experiences.
Former teammate and close friend Brandon Jacobs said the following regarding the rumors of Burris going to the Eagles:
“Plax is a Virginia guy, Vick is a Virginia guy. They sort of went through the same things,” Jacobs said. “They’ve got a lot of dynamic players there. It wouldn’t be a bad thing, he thinks, to go down there if you want to win. He wants to go down there, he wants to have a chance to win the Super Bowl right away.”
Though it looks and sounds as if Burris and the Eagles would make a good fit, some ex-Giant teammates are hoping that Plax comes back to NY.
“I’m already campaigning,” Giants captain Justin Tuck said. “He has a lot of friends on this team and this is a team that wants him here. I can’t speak for Plaxico. Obviously he has a mind of his own and he knows what he wants to do. But coming from the captain of the New York Giants, I would love to see Plaxico back here in Giants blue.”
What are your thoughts on the speculations? Will Plaxico Burris join up with Vick and the Eagles?
